Barcelona vice-president Josep Bartmoeu has denied speculation that they are interested in signing in-form Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, ESPN has reported.

Reports in Spain had claimed that Barcelona were targeting Aguero, who played in Spain for Atletico Madrid between 2006 and 2011, before joining Man City. However, Bartmoeu was quick to deny the claims, telling Mundo Deportivo: "No, we have had no contact with him. I can say that the story is not true."

Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini has also claimed that he is unaware of any contact with Barcelona concerning Aguero, with the Argentine happy to stay at the Etihad Stadium for the foreseeable future. He said: "I don't know anything about that. I don't think Sergio wants to leave. That is not a problem for us. I don't believe in that."

Aguero has been in fine form for Man City this season, forging an effective strike partnership with summer signing Alvaro Negredo. His early strike at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening took his goals tally to 17 goals from 18 appearances in all competitions.
