Man Utd boss Moyes let down in transfer market, claims Everton’s Jagielka

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has said that Manchester United manager David Moyes was let down by the Old Trafford club’s hierarchy during the summer, as they failed to secure the signings of multiple transfer targets, writes the Daily Express.

Despite registering interest in several players across Europe including Real Madrid duo Sami Khedira and Fabio Coentrao, Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera, Thiago Alcantara - who ended up joining Bayern Munich from Barcelona - and Everton left-back Leighton Baines, Man Utd only made the one significant summer signing, that of Baines’ Goodison Park teammate, Marouane Fellaini.

As a result, Man Utd have struggled somewhat in Moyes’ first season in charge, and they lie ninth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Arsenal. And Jagielka, who played under Moyes at Everton for six years, has sympathy for the Scot.

He said: “I have a lot of time and respect for David Moyes. I do feel sorry for him. The fixture list wasn’t that kind initially. And with the transfers in the summer, the people who were making those decisions didn’t help him out one bit.

“He has some great players in the squad but he just needs to add a few more players that he wants. That is the acid test for him, getting the players in that he wants. Once he gets that sorted and he gets more of his team rather than a team he has been given, he will be fine.”
