Stoke vs Chelsea - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 06 December 2013

After their win at Sunderland, Chelsea will be hoping for more of the same in attack, but better defending from set-pieces, which is a must for any side who visit Stoke City.

The home side will have been disappointed at their failure to find their way past a stubborn Cardiff City on Wednesday, as they missed the chance to move six points clear of the Premier League’s bottom three. Form remains inconsistent for Mark Hughes’ men, who have now won just one of their last 11 league matches.

Chelsea were involved in an extraordinary game at the Stadium of Light, one which manager Jose Mourinho hailed as their best performance of the season. However, poor defending from set-pieces allowed the hosts to stay in the game and leave the Blues holding on towards the end.

After his two goals, Eden Hazard was singled out for praise from Mourinho, and the Belgian will hope to carry that form to the Potteries, where he scored from 30 yards in last seasons’s corresponding fixture.

Robert Huth is still out for Stoke, who have doubts over striker Jonathan Walters after he missed the Cardiff game. Marko Arnautovic should be fit enough to start.

Chelsea could again be without Oscar, but Samuel Eto’o could feature after recovering from a groin injury. David Luiz is still out, while Marco van Ginkel is a long-term absentee.
