Manchester United midfielder Anderson is set to return to his former club in January after failing to live up to his £24million fee, writes Mirror.

Porto are looking to bring Anderson back to the club on a loan deal in the New Year, with the Brazilian out of favour under David Moyes at Old Trafford.

It is understood that Moyes is looking to offload the Brazilian, and the likes of Ashley Young after the poor start United have made to the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson signed Anderson for £24million in 2007, but the club are looking to ship him out on loan to Porto with the view to make it a permanent move.

The 25-year-old has made just three appearances this season, all in the early stages of the season during United’s wins over Swansea and Crystal Palace, but his last appearance came during the 2-1 defeat at home to West Brom.

Anderson’s first season at the club during 2007-08 was the most successful in terms of game time, when he made 24 appearances for the club, but failed to score until September 2009.

Anderson did not cost £24m. At the time it was reported that Anderson and Nani had cost £30m in total. Most journalists reckoned that the split was £13m Nani and £17m Anderson.
