Chelsea trail tough tackling defender Zouma
Jose Mourinho is reportedly plotting a bid for French defender Kurt Zouma in the January transfer window, , the Daily Mail has reported.
The deal could worth up to £10m, but after his side conceded seven goals in the last two games, including a 3-2 defeat at Stoke last time out, Mourinho is eager to strengthen the back line.
Zouma currently plies his trade for St.Etienne in Ligue 1 and is currently on the sidelines after he received a 10-match ban for a reckless tackle that left Sochaux midfielder Thomas Guerbert with a broken leg.
The 19-year-old, who has caught the eye of both Manchester clubs, immediately apologised for the tackle and said; "It was an unintentional accident".
He added: "I went to tackle the ball but unfortunately, carried along by my own momentum, I injured Thomas Guerbert. I met him in the changing room. I have been shocked. I apologised to him, his family and everyone. I hope he will come back soon."
The youngster has 51 senior appearances to his name already and has been capped at Under 21 level on two occasions by France.
Chelsea face Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League this Wednesday in a game they need to win to ensure finishing top of the group, having already qualified.
