Giroud ‘frustrated’ but understands rotation policy
Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud admitted he was ‘frustrated’ at being left on the bench for the visit of Hull City in midweek, but understands he will need rest during the season, writes Independent.
The Arsenal striker has seven goals to his Premier League tally this season, but found himself left on the bench in midweek as Nicklas Bendtner started upfront for Arsenal.
The France international, who joined Arsenal in the summer from Monpellier, was slightly surprised at being dropped to the bench, but understands it was to rest having started 14 matches in the top flight.
"It did feel strange (to be on the bench against Hull) and I was a bit frustrated because I really want to play every game," Giroud said.
"But the boss said he had reason to leave me on the bench because it is better to have a rest sometimes, but I am obviously just really happy that the team won the game."
Arsenal travel to Italy for Wednesday evening’s Champions League tie with Napoli at Stadio San Paolo. The Gunners go into the game knowing that a draw would be enough to secure first place in Group F.
Arsene Wenger’s fixture list will give him nightmares for the festive period, as a trip to Manchester City on Saturday is followed by matches against Chelsea and rivals Tottenham in the FA Cup third round.
