Koscielny confident Arsenal can handle Napoli
Wednesday 11 December 2013
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny believes his side are more than capable of coping with the pressured atmosphere likely to greet them when they arrive at Stadio San Paolo for their Wednesday evening Champions League clash with Napoli, according to The Mirror.
The Gunners need only avoid a defeat by three goals to secure qualification to the knockout stages of the tournament, but Rafael Benitez’s side will be going all out in order to try and secure advancement themselves.
They sit third in Group F, level with last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund on points, but have a five goal deficit in the difference column. An Italian win by three or more goals, however, will turn around the six goal difference between themselves and their English guests and ensure they leapfrog Arsenal into at least second.
With one of the most passionate atmospheres in Europe filling Napoli’s home games on a regular basis, there have been concerns about Arsenal’s security going into the game – but France international Koscielny remains confident.
“Dortmund was very important,” said the 28-year-old.
“Dortmund played in the last final, it was difficult, we showed some good character and we were very strong in defence and had some opportunities to score.
“It will be a good team, very hard, we want to finish in the first place of the group so we need to win here.”
