Allardyce lines up Martins reunion at West Ham

Wednesday 11 December 2013

West Ham could be set to offer a January loan move to former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins, according to The Telegraph.

Sam Allardyce

Martins spent three years in English football after joining the Magpies in 2006, and proved pretty successful at St. James’ Park, scoring 28 goals in 88 games. He has since moved a few times, spending a very brief and relatively unremarkable loan spell at Birmingham in 2011, but is currently enjoying life in the MLS with Seattle Sounders.

The Hammers are keen to reinforce their striking options, and have identified Martins along with Inter Milan striker Diego Milito – who could even be available on a free in the summer – and former Man United star Diego Forlan.

A loan move during the American off-season has considerable precedent, with LA Galaxy heroes David Beckham and Landon Donovan both spending time on loan in Europe, as has former Robbie Keane – also currently with LA Galaxy, but who also spent time on loan at West Ham in 2011 while still with Spurs.

Should Martins move to West Ham, he would be reunited with Sam Allardyce – his manager during his stint at the Toon Army.
