Pochettino wants reunion with Espanyol striker Stuani at Southampton
Thursday 12 December 2013
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is planning a reunion with Espanyol striker Christian Stuani, reports talkSPORT.
Pochettino signed Stuani for the Spaniards during his time in charge at Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, and now wants to bring the 27-year-old to the south coast in January.
Espanyol want to retain the services of their striker, but current financial constraints at the club could push them into seeking a potential sale in the new year – prompting Southampton to give serious consideration to making a formal approach during the January transfer window.
Stuani has struggled to find his form this season, scoring only three goals in all competitions, but was able to fare somewhat better under Pochettino’s tutelage – his total tally is nine goals in 48 appearances for the club.
Potential transfer fees are yet to be mooted, but should the Saints boss wish to push ahead with an approach the funds most likely could be made available, and a crack at Premier League life could be on the horizon for the Uruguay international.
Stuani made his debut for Uruguay in 2012, and has gone on to win seven caps – netting two goals in the process.
