Premier League Round 16 Predictions

Bookmark and Share

By Henry Chard

Friday 13 December 2013

The twists and turns continued in this stunning Premier League season last weekend, all very exciting for the neutral, and you would be a brave man to predict what will happen this weekend, but let's give it a go.

There are some mouth-watering ties this weekend and the game that opens the round of fixtures on Saturday lunchtime is one to be savoured. Table toppers Arsenal head to the Etihad to face a Manchester City side in really good form. After a sluggish start to the season for Pellegrini's men, they are really starting to hit top form of late and are starting to hunt down the Gunners. City's home form is impeccable. Seven wins from seven with 29 goals scored and just two conceded, the record speaks for itself, and they will be in buoyant mood following beating the European champions in their own back yard in midweek. Expect a comfortable home win.

We must remember that Arsenal are still the team to beat at this stage. Their form has dipped a little in the past two games. They were perhaps lucky to record a draw at home to Everton last week, when not at their best, before they were defeated by Napoli midweek in the Champions League with a rather lacklustre performance. The Gunners away form is not to be sniffed at though, with just one defeat coming at Old Trafford this term. The odds will be stacked against them this weekend though and rather than back them for a win, you might be better off checking the favourites for the World Cup instead.

In another top of the table clash Tottenham host Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday. After their drubbing at the Etihad, Spurs have responded well with a draw against the Champions and two comeback wins on the road putting their season back on track. Similarly, Liverpool have responded well to a shock defeat to Hull with two big home wins in a week scoring nine in the process, top scorer Suarez with six of them. The Reds will be without their captain Steven Gerrard and are also still without Daniel Sturridge, so you would fancy the home side if they can keep Suarez quiet.

The under pressure David Moyes takes his Manchester United side to Villa Park in a game you would think he cannot afford to lose. At the bottom, West Ham meet Sunderland in a crunch game that could go a long way to determining both teams seasons. Sunderland need a win to avoid being cut adrift whilst West Ham need a win to pull them away from trouble and ease the pressure on their manager, I wouldn't rule out an away win in that one. Newcastle face Southampton in the battle of the surprise teams so far this season, with the Saints stuttering and the Toon in confident mood, the home side will be odds on to take the three points, but the Saints won't roll over, a draw could be a good bet.
