Man City vs Arsenal - Premier League best and worst
Saturday 14 December 2013
On Saturday, Manchester City and Arsenal meet at the Etihad Stadium in a match which looks to have the makings of a classic, and it is a fixture which has also delivered plenty of entertainment in previous years:
The meeting between the sides at the Etihad Stadium last season took place in September 2012, and a decidedly off-colour Man City looked to be heading to victory thanks to Joleon Lescott’s first half goal, but Arsenal got the equaliser their efforts deserved eight minutes from time, when Laurent Koscielny fired in following a corner.
Most Costly Error
Arsenal were handed victory on a plate back in October 2010, as Man City defender Dedryck Boyata was dismissed in the early stages for bringing down Marouane Chamakh as he raced through on goal. From then on, Arsenal were comfortable, and goals from Samir Nasri - now of Man City, Alexandre Song and Nicklas Bendtner gave the scoreline a convincing look.
Best Team Performance
Man City were a newly promoted side when they hosted Arsenal at Maine Road back in February 2003, and they were blown away 5-1. The Gunners were four goals up after just 20 minutes as Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Thierry Henry and Sol Campbell all found the net. Patrick Vieira added another in the second half, with Nicolas Anelka scoring Man City’s consolation.
Most Shocking Moment
The two teams were involved in a wonderful game back in September 2009 as Man City won 4-2 due to a marvellous second half display, full of creativity. However, the abiding memory of that match was Emmanuel Adebayor running the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans after scoring for the hosts against his old club.
