Arsenal defending disappoints Wenger

Following his side’s 6-3 defeat to title rivals Manchester City on Saturday, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger blamed a poor defensive display for their failure to take something from the game, Sky Sports has reported.

Arsenal went into the game with a five point lead at the top of the Premier League, and with the best defensive record in the division, but at times, they could not cope with Man City’s strength in attack, and despite Theo Walcott’s brace and Theo Walcott’s late header, poor defending cost them.

An unmarked Sergio Aguero gave the home side the lead on 14 minutes, while misplaced passes led to two of Man City’s second half goals. And afterwards, a frustrated Wenger said: "We had the best defence in the league but we conceded many goals.

Honestly, we could have scored at least six today as well. It was a very open game, we made too mistakes though. Our strength until today was our defensive strength but that went today."

Gunners defender Laurent Koscielny was injured as Alvaro Negredo put Man City 2-1 in front, and when asked about the situation, Wenger added: "He will be out for a while, but for how long I don't know."
