West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that he understands the frustration of the club’s supporters, after another uninspiring performance on Saturday, writes Sky Sports.

The Hammers were second best for long spells and created few chances against a Sunderland side who began the day five points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table. Goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen was required to make some fine saves to keep the visitors at bay as a chorus of boos from the home fans greeted the final whistle.

The result meant West Ham are just one point above the drop zone ahead of fixtures against Manchester United and Arsenal, and Allardyce understands the fans’ disappointment. He said: "It doesn't make it easier for me, but it is part of the job. You sit there and you expect that reaction when your team doesn't perform. We didn't entertain them and, more importantly at the moment, we didn't win."

"We didn't do what we did against against Fulham, which was a brilliant game. Today dogged hard work was the order of the day, and we didn't deserve more than a draw."

Most of West Ham’s problems this season have been in attack, as they have scored just 13 goals in the absence of record signing Andy Carroll, while their tally of eight clean sheets in 16 matches is the joint best in the Premier League.
