Chelsea are hoping to beat Manchester United in the race to sign Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin, and have made an official bid for the player, reports the Metro.

Man Utd manager David Moyes has reportedly sent officials over to Italy after making the signing of Guarin a key priority for the upcoming January transfer window. However, Chelsea are thought to have made an offer of £10m plus £5m in bonuses as they look to capture the Colombian international.

Guarin has spent 17 months at the San Siro, scoring 13 goals in 70 appearances, and racking up an impressive 24 assists. He also has 47 caps for his country, which he will represent in the World Cup next summer. Chelsea’s reported offer comes despite manager Jose Mourinho insisting that the Blues will not make any signings in the New Year.

The 27-year-old has previously spoken of his desire to move to the Premier League, and while Liverpool and Tottenham are both admirers, Chelsea and Man Utd are the only clubs to have opened negotiations with Inter.
