Tottenham vs Liverpool - Premier League preview and team news

Sunday 15 December 2013

A home win over Liverpool for the sixth season in succession will see Tottenham move level on points with the Reds, who currently lie in fifth.

White Hart Lane

Tottenham have found form at just the right time after a poor run of results left manager Andre Villas-Boas’ position seemingly under threat. Two away victories, both from a goal down, have eased the pressure on the former Chelsea boss, who would have been relieved to see Roberto Soldado score a hat-trick against Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League on Thursday, after the Spaniard’s frustrating start to life in English football.

The next four games look set to determine a lot about where Liverpool are heading this season. Visits to Manchester City and Chelsea lie ahead just after Christmas, and they go into this daunting run of fixtures without captain Steven Gerrard, and striker Daniel Sturridge. However, they do still still have Luis Suarez, who is in truly devastating form at present, scoring 14 goals in his last 11 games.

Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen could return for Tottenham after recovering from injury, but defenders Jan Vertonghen, Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul are all doubts.

Aside from Gerrard and Sturridge, Liverpool are still without Iago Aspas and Sebastian Coates, but Jordan Henderson and Daniel Agger are both fit enough to start.
