Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is relishing the prospect of Arsenal facing European champions Bayern Munich after the Gunners were drawn against the Germans for the second season running, reports The Mirror.

Arsenal beat the eventual winners Bayern 2-0 at the Allianz Arena in the last 16 of the competition last season, but ultimately fell short as Bayern had beaten them 3-1 at the Emirates – meaning the Germans advanced on the away goals rule.

They are once again favourites to take the crown this season, and so Arsenal will certainly face a tough task – but the former Southampton youngster is over the moon with the draw.

“We managed to get a good result away at Bayern last season so that brings back good memories. If you're going to do well in the competition, you've got to beat the best teams,” said the 20-year-old.

"Obviously the big teams create the bigger atmospheres around the stadiums.”

Team-mate Lukas Podolski echoed Oxlade-Chamberlain’s sentiments, writing on his Twitter account: “What a draw again! We're facing Bayern once more.:)”

Bayern do not appear quite as keen on the draw as the Premier League leaders, however, with director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge conceding that the draw was a tough one, with Bayern defender – and former Man City stopper – Jerome Boateng agreeing.

Boateng told the club’s official website: “They're the toughest opponents we could have had. They'll be totally up for it after what happened last year. Both matches will be very intense.”
