Fulham winger Ruiz set for Anderlecht move in a bid to improve World Cup hopes

Fulham winger Bryan Ruiz looks set to leave Craven Cottage in January in a bid to bolster his World Cup hopes, according to The Mirror.

Ruiz arrived for a costly £10.6m from FC Twente in 2011 but has failed to establish himself as a top name on the Cottagers’ selection sheet, and it is believed that the last straw for him came during the club’s 4-1 defeat at Everton on Saturday, where he remained an unused substitute.

Ruiz confirmed that he may be looking to leave the Cottagers, saying: “Playing at the World Cup can define your career and I want above all to prepare well for next summer's finals. If the chance comes for me to play in Belgium or Holland once more I will certainly consider it.

“I have happy memories of Belgium. I am still in contact with friends in the country.”

That desire could come true, as it is believed that Anderlecht – arch-rivals of Ruiz’s former club Gent – could be set to make a move to tempt the Costa Rican back to the continent, with the club’s sporting director Herman Van Holsbeeck thought to be in London this week to thrash out terms over a January deal.
