Arsenal and Liverpool set to battle for Olympiakos striker Mitroglou
Greece international Kostas Mitroglou could be the subject of a Premier League bidding war in January, with both Arsenal and Liverpool interested in signing the free-scoring striker according to The Metro.
Mitroglou currently plays for Olympiakos, and has already scored 21 goals for the Reds this season. His form has attracted the interest of two of England’s top clubs, with both reportedly looking to add to their firepower as the second half of the English season approaches.
Mitroglou’s transfer fee would likely come to less than £8m – making him arguably one of the most attractive prospective purchases in the approaching transfer window. With Arsenal only having Olivier Giroud as an established out-and-out striker, manager Arsene Wenger is keen to add a new name to the mix in order to keep the Frenchman on his toes, and provide additional competition for places once Lukas Podolski returns from injury.
Olympiakos boss Jose Miguel Michel admitted he expects interest in the 25-year-old, saying: “If he keeps on doing well, it will be hard to keep him.
“We’ve known for some time that there has been interest from many clubs, but that’s only logical considering how well he has been doing lately.”
