Mourinho wants Musacchio to join Chelsea, but Man City and Barcelona also trail Villareal star
Villareal defender Mateo Musacchio is on the wishlists of both Man City and Chelsea, but the Premier League rivals are likely to face stiff competition in the form of Barcelona for the 23-year-old’s signature, according to The Independent.
Musacchio, who has won two caps for Argentina, has had a fantastic season thus far in Spain, helping Villareal keep five clean sheets so far, occupying fifth place. He has also been an ever-present in that side, and has attracted the interest owing to a series of outstanding performances.
With Chelsea’s frailties in attack being well documented, Jose Mourinho looks set to move to a more defensive philosophy in order to plug some of the gaps in their results chart. Musacchio would add a fresh flavor of youth and enthusiasm to complement – and contest with – the experience of John Terry, and potentially partner Gary Cahill in his peak. Inter Milan's Andrea Ranocchia is another player thought to be on the Portuguese’s radar.
City, meanwhile, are said to be searching for long-term replacements for Vincent Kompany, who has also been struggling with injuries in recent times.
