Welbeck wants to make the most of central role at Man United during van Persie's absence
Man United striker Danny Welbeck is determined to take his chance in the first team during Robin van Persie’s absence, according to ManUtd.com.
The striker, who has spent spells on loan at Sunderland and Everton, has been in good form so far having featured twice during the Dutchman’s absence. He has scored two, both in the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, and remains a regular in the England lineup.
The 23-year-old has featured primarily as a striker out wide this season, but is hoping that a spell in the center will help prove his worth in a Man United team that is undergoing considerable transition.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Welbeck said: “Obviously it is not my decision about where I play. As I have said plenty of times before, I am happy to play for Manchester United in any of the attacking positions.
“Unfortunately, Robin has got injured, and I might have a chance up front so I am looking to score some goals for United while playing as a centre-forward.
“I want to score plenty more goals and I have got a figure in mind.”
