Everton manager Roberto Martinez has admitted that he may be forced to enter the loan market in January, after receiving the news that Gerard Deulofeu will be out for six to eight weeks, Sky Sports has reported.

Barcelona - Deulofeu’s parent club - confirmed the 19-year-old winger’s absence via a statement they issued on Thursday. The Spaniard, who had scored two Premier League goals before being taken off with the hamstring injury during the Everton’s 4-1 win over Fulham, adds to an injury list that already comprises long-term absentees Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone.

As a result, Martinez has decided that he might have to sign another player on loan, having also brought in Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Manchester City’s Gareth Barry on temporary deals in the summer. He said: "I do feel that Arouna Kone and Darron Gibson are two players who were going to have big roles for us.

"So I will look if there are any options to bring in anyone in January, just to have that peace of mind and make the squad a little bit stronger. It could be the loan market. It is a short-term situation the one we are in, because I'd love to see Darron and Arouna back on the pitch. A short-term solution would help in that respect.

"But overall, I've been delighted with the way the lads have adapted."
