Dempsey poised to return to Fulham on loan

Saturday 21 December 2013

Fulham are set to re-sign former star Clint Dempsey on a two-month loan deal, with the American having undergone a medical with the West London club on Friday, Sky Sports has reported.

Clint Dempsey

Dempsey spent five years at Fulham between 2007 and 2012, during which time he became the club’s highest ever Premier League scorer. After his most prolific campaign, 2011-12, he left for Tottenham the following summer, where he spent one season before moving back to the United States to join the Seattle Sounders of the MLS.

The loan deal could go through when the transfer window opens on January 1, and with Dempsey not due back in Seattle until March 8, the 30-year-old has nine Premier League games to help Fulham move clear of the relegation zone, where they currently lie after losing 11 of their 16 games thus far.

Of the proposed move, Cottagers boss Rene Meulensteen said: "He's having a medical over the last couple of days and the next couple of days, so hopefully that will all work out.

"Clint has spent so many years playing in the Premier League. We know where his strengths lie whether it is coming in from the left or playing as a deeper striker or a number nine depending on who you are playing against. The most important thing is that he will be a good boost for us."
