Swansea vs Everton - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Saturday 21 December 2013

Everton boss Roberto Martinez faces his former club on Sunday looking to extend his side’s unbeaten run to 10 Premier League games.

Swansea were unable to recover properly from a worrying looking injury to Nathan Dyer last time out, as they allowed Norwich City to take control. They managed to take a point, which was enough to keep them in the top half. Despite their relatively comfortable position, Michael Laudrup’s team have been far less convincing than they were last season, and are scoring less.

In four Premier League meetings, Everton have never conceded a goal against Swansea, and with their impressive recent defensive record, it would be unsurprising to see them keep another clean sheet here. Under Martinez, the Merseysiders have gone from strength to strength, and there is a good chance of a top four finish in this unpredictable season should their form be maintained.

Gerhard Tremmel will replace Michel Vorm in goal for the Swans, after the Dutchman underwent knee surgery. Dyer is out, Miguel Michu is doubtful, but Leon Britton and Chico Flores could return to the starting line-up.

Everton will be without Gerard Deulofeu, who was taken off with an injury in the win over Fulham. He joins Leighton Baines, Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone on the injury list.
