Chelsea defender Cole considering retirement
Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole is considering the possibility of calling time on his playing career after next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, according to the Daily Mail.
Cole has recently found himself out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, with Cesar Azpilicueta being preferred for the left-back position. Should he decide to retire, he will end his playing days as one of the most successful players ever to have played in English football.
The 33-year-old has 106 England caps and was long considered to be the best left-back in the world by many observers. Among his honours are four Premier League titles and one Champions League winners medal, while he also is the only player to have been part of six FA Cup winning sides.
Despite his lack of games for Chelsea, he is still expected to turn out for England in the World Cup, although Leighton Baines is vying for his position in the national team. Mourinho has previously stated that he like Cole to stay at the club beyond this season, but the former Arsenal man is reportedly unsatisfied at being a bit-part player, and he would prefer to retire than moving elsewhere.
