Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew spoke of his delight after his side’s performance in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, Sky Sports is reporting.

Yohan Cabaye’s deflected shot, Danny Gabbidon’s own goal and Hatem Ben Arfa’s late penalty saw the in-form Magpies notch their sixth win in eight Premier League games and inflict a first home defeat since October upon the Eagles. Newcastle’s fine run has lifted them to sixth in the table as the season approaches the halfway stage.

After the game, Pardew - who spent four years as a player at Selhurst Park - said: "As an ex-player, to come back here with a team that plays as well as that, is almost dreamlike. It was a great performance from us.

"Palace had their tails up, and I don't think many teams will come here and win 3-0. I'm absolutely delighted with my players. They were terrific, and it's a sweet feeling. I think the key was to control the possession, and make sure the ball didn't come in our box. The best way to do that is to keep it.

"We did that well today. Sometimes it's not always easy to do that on this pitch and with the conditions that we had. But we couldn't have been more accurate today, and we had some great play."

As it stands, Newcastle are just six points behind leaders Liverpool ahead of home games against Stoke City and Arsenal, before a trip to West Bromwich Albion on New Year’s Day.
