Tottenham vs West Brom - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Thursday 26 December 2013

Tim Sherwood takes charge of Tottenham for the first time since being named Head Coach on a permanent basis as the North London club host West Bromwich Albion, who are looking for a new boss of their own.

The somewhat surprising decision to appoint Sherwood came after he masterminded the victory at Southampton, fielding a very attacking starting line-up. This gave them the freedom to create more chances than they did under Andre Villas-Boas, and it was Emmanuel Adebayor, an outcast of the previous regime, who scored the vital goals, ably assisted by Roberto Soldado.

West Brom were spared from a fifth successive defeat by Matej Vydra’s late strike against Hull City, a game which the Baggies could not afford to lose. It was another winnable home game which passed them by however, and the task ahead for Steve Clarke’s successor will be to arrest their slide and get the best out of what is an undoubtedly talented squad.

Tottenham will be without suspended midfielder Paulinho as well as injured trio Younes Kaboul, Harry Kane and Andros Townsend. Sandro and Jan Vertonghen are both doubtful.

The visitors have a fully-fit squad to choose from after Ben Foster returned in goal on Saturday.
