Aston Villa vs Swansea - Premier League preview and team news
Saturday 28 December 2013
Aston Villa and Swansea City meet in another important Premier League game, with both looking down the table rather than up.
The tension is building around Villa Park as form continues to worsen for Paul Lambert’s side. Defeat to Crystal Palace at home on Boxing Day resulted in the team being booed off by frustrated supporters, with the club just three points clear of the drop zone after a run of only two wins from 12 games. Their home record also makes terrible reading, with six defeats from nine outings.
Swansea, like Villa, are struggling for goals with Wilfried Bony and Miguel Michu both struggling for fitness. Michu will still be out for several weeks, and their lack of potency going forward was displayed at Chelsea, where only a combination of poor finishing and superb goalkeeping from Gerhard Tremmel spared them from losing by a heavier margin.
Ashley Westwood returns from suspension for Villa, but captain Ron Vlaar and striker Christian Benteke are still missing as well as Joe Bennett and Jores Okore.
Tremmel will stay in goal in place of Michel Vorm, who is recovering from knee surgery. Nathan Dyer and Garry Monk are also out for the Swans.
