Arsenal and Chelsea facing competition for Atletico Madrid striker Costa
Borussia Dortmund have entered the race to sign in-form Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, who is a target of Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea, according to the Daily Express.
The Bundesliga club have entered the market for a forward as they prepare for their star striker, Robert Lewandowski, to announce that he will leave the club for bitter rivals Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Chelsea are also determined to find a new striker, with their current trio of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres all failing to score goals on a regular basis. The three of them have managed a combined total of just six league goals this season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking to ease the burden on Olivier Giroud, who has played as the lone striker for the Gunners for much of the campaign.
Costa is currently one of Europe’s in-form strikers, and his goalscoring exploits have helped Atletico Madrid keep up the pace with La Liga leaders Barcelona. So far this season, the 25-year-old has scored an impressive 23 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions, leading several clubs to consider triggering his £34m release clause.
