Swansea vs Man City - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Tuesday 31 December 2013

Manchester City will be looking to extend their winning run to five games as they begin 2014 with a trip to the Liberty Stadium, a venue at which they have never scored a goal.

Swansea come into this game in disappointing form, which has seen them slip into the bottom half. They did, however, produce their best performance for some time at Aston Villa on Saturday but failed to make the most of their possession, and only had Roland Lamah’s first goal in English football to show for the efforts and penetrating the Villa defence proved a difficult task.

Saturday’s home encounter with Crystal Palace did not bring the avalanche of Man City goals which many people had expected. Instead it was largely a day of frustration as Tony Pulis’ side defended resolutely and carried a threat at the other end, with Joe Hart required to make a couple of fine saves. As it was, Edin Dzeko’s second half strike to settle the result came as a major relief for the title hopefuls.

Wilfried Bony should keep his place for a Swansea side still without Miguel Michu, Nathan Dyer, Garry Monk and goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

Man City, already without Sergio Aguero, Micah Richards and Stevan Jovetic, are unable to call upon David Silva for this match, after the Spaniard picked up his fifth booking of the season against Crystal Palace. Manuel Pellegrini is also waiting on the fitness of defender Martin Demichelis.
