Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident that his Gunners side are capable of maintaining their title challenge through to the end of the season, reports The Guardian.

Arsenal saw in 2014 as the Premier League leaders, but many expect the north Londoners to fall short in their challenge for a first crown since 2004. Managers and the media alike have been quoted in their belief that the title is Man City’s to lose despite the north Londoners holding a one point lead at the top going into the New Year’s Day fixtures.

Arsenal earned 82 points from 38 games across two seasons during the 2013 calendar year, and no other team could boast a better tally. Speaking of his side’s chances, and Arsenal’s status as the Premier League’s most consistent side in 2013, the Frenchman said: “Everyone expects us to fail. It's not a trophy but it shows the consistency and the trend for the team.

“It means we are going upwards and we want to transfer that into 2014, to be concrete and to have a great race in the Premier League title. We have been consistent and that makes the belief stronger. These players have a classy attitude, they are hungry, they want it and are ready to go for it.

“This squad is more experienced. In 2008, we lost it at Birmingham, especially, where we were a bit unlucky and self-destructive as well. But, overall, we are better equipped on the mental front.”

Arsenal host Cardiff on January 1st in the league.
