Chelsea pair Lampard and Ivanovic face month on the sidelines
Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic will miss Chelsea’s fixtures for the next month, Sky Sports has reported, after the pair suffered injuries in the final game of 2013 against Liverpool.
Ivanovic had to be substituted in the first-half of the win over the Reds, stricken with a knee injury, while Lampard was taken off at half-time with a muscle problem. The duo were replaced by Ashley Cole and John Obi Mikel respectively, with both Cole and Mikel starting the New Year’s Day win over Southampton.
Chelsea will play at least four more games in January, with Premier League fixtures against Hull City, Manchester United, and West Ham United to come, as well as an FA Cup date with Derby County. Should Chelsea get past the Rams they would face a fifth game in the month, with the FA Cup Fourth Round scheduled to take place on the weekend of January 25.
Without Ivanovic and Lampard, Chelsea recorded a 3-0 win over Southampton to remain third in the Premier League table, two points short of leaders Arsenal.
