Adebayor crucial to Tottenham turnaround, believes Rose

Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose believes striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been the catalyst for the club’s recent improvement in form under Tim Sherwood, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor was banished from the first team by former Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas, but when Villas-Boas was sacked following a heavy home defeat against Liverpool and replaced by Sherwood, the former Arsenal striker was restored to the squad. Adebayor has since responded with a flurry of goals and match-winning performances, scoring twice in the 3-2 away win over Southampton and netting at Old Trafford against Manchester United on New Year’s Day, with Spurs winning 2-1.

Rose feels that Adebayor’s presence has helped the team as a whole and striker Roberto Soldado individually, as Soldado played almost exclusively as a lone striker under the previous boss. “No disrespect to Andre but playing one up front has been a bit frustrating and hard for Soldado at times,” Rose said.

It is nice that he has got a bit of help with Adebayor,” the left-back continued. “He didn’t play a game since pre-season until a few weeks ago but his energy levels have been brilliant. He has scored three or four goals in his last four games and it’s brilliant for us.

A lot of it is down to Ade coming back into the team,” Rose said on Spurs’ recent results. “He has been like a new signing in both boxes - winning [defensive] headers at corners and stuff.

Adebayor initially joined Tottenham on loan from Manchester City in August 2011, scoring 18 goals and convincing the club to make the move permanent. He has since scored a further 12 goals for the club but didn’t feature until November this season.
