Chelsea close to deal for Inter's Guarin, but Mourinho rules out Higuain move

Chelsea could be set to finally capture long-term target Fredy Guarin this month, but manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out bringing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain to Stamford Bridge during the winter transfer window, according to The Mirror.

Fredy Guarin

Guarin has been wanted in west London since shortly after the transfer window closed, and it is now being reported that as soon as the Blues are prepared to match Inter Milan’s £15m price tag the deal can be finalised.

With negotiations now at an advanced stage, the ball is firmly in Chelsea’s court and the Premier League title hopefuls have already had bids rejected, and with the latest being for around £13m a deal does not appear too far off.

With regards to Higuain, however, Mourinho admits that he is not a player that even Chelsea are capable of signing just yet – but refused to rule out a move for the Argentinian in the summer.

It had appeared that Higuain would join Arsenal in the summer, but he eventually opted for Napoli – with the Gunners signing Mesut Ozil instead. Higuain has settled in well at Italy, and even in the summer it would likely take a massive offer to tempt the Italian club to talk business, but Chelsea are one of the clubs surely capable of affording such a transfer fee – though financial fair play regulations could potentially have an impact.

Mourinho said of the situation: “He’s a player I know I can’t get. He moved from Real Madrid to Napoli six months ago, is doing very well, adapted to Italy. Napoli is not a club that sells.

“They want to win the Scudetto and Europa League. Why should we be interested in someone that is impossible to come?”

Be fast, or get behind in d market
