Porto striker Jackson Martinez has revealed that he grew up an Arsenal fan, and would love the opportunity to sign for the Gunners, reports The Metro.

Martinez has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some months, with Everton and Chelsea having previously been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but with no deal materialising the Colombian international has remained with former Champions League winners Porto.

However, speaking to reporters Martinez seemed to offer something of a come-and-get-me plea, saying: “I cheered for Arsenal when I was a kid – I love their style of play.

“It’s flowing and open with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me. If I get a chance to play for a high level club like Arsenal I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it.”

Martinez signed for Porto in 2012 for a reported fee of US$11m, but rumours of a move to the Premier League quickly followed. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was reported to be plotting a raid on his old club – he was the manager when Porto won Europe’s biggest prize in 2004 – and Everton were also thought to be interested in linking up Martinez with namesake manager Roberto at the back end of last summer.

Martinez made his debut for Colombia back in 2009, and has gone on to make 25 appearances for his homeland, scoring six goals in the process.

Were he to leave Porto, it is expected Martinez would cost his new club in the region of £30m.
