Cabella move to Newcastle will not happen, insists Montpellier chief Nicollin
Newcastle’s reported interest in Montpellier midfielder Remy Cabella has not yet resulted in a deal despite reports to the contrary, according to Sky Sports.
Cabella has scored six goals in 18 appearances from the midfield this season, and his form was believed to help convince Toon boss Alan Pardew move to secure a transfer to Newcastle early in this winter transfer window.
However, Montpellier chief Laurent Nicollin has dismissed suggestions that a deal has been completed, and went so far as to deny that Cabella would be leaving the French outfit this month.
He said: “He is at the club so far. It has not been forecasted that he would leave in January.
“There has been talk about a departure in June, there is an agreement in principle.”
The club with the agreement, however, do not seem to be Newcastle, with Nicollin continuing: “Not at all, I don't speak English.
“Agents have called me, but I am on holiday. We will see, on Monday. Anyway, there is absolutely no contact with that club.
“Remy is at the club and I hope he will remain until June. Of course, there are some offers you cannot refuse.”
