Liverpool’s Sturridge set to return from injury
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could return from a lengthy injury lay-off in time to take on Stoke City in the Premier League on Sunday, ESPN has reported.
The England international has missed the Anfield club’s last nine games, having picked up the ankle problem during a training session at the end of November. Prior to that, Sturridge had made an impressive start to the season, scoring 11 goals in 14 games. His partnership with Luis Suarez was also considered to be one of the best in the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have coped reasonably with his absence, although they did lose three times in the Premier League during December. Suarez has continued to score plenty of goals, taking his tally to 20 for the season.
Ahead of the trip to the Britannia Stadium, Sturridge was stepped up his recovery by taking part in an intensive training session on Monday as he hopes to rejoin Suarez in attack for the first time since scoring a late equaliser in the Merseyside derby on November 23.
Sturridge’s return to fitness comes after Steven Gerrard made his comeback from injury against Hull City on New Year’s Day, though the Reds are still looking to discover the extent of Daniel Agger’s injury, after the Dane was taken off as a precaution during the FA Cup win over Oldham Athletic.
