Tottenham winger Lamela eyeing return to Italy

Wednesday 08 January 2014

The father of Tottenham winger Erik Lamela has claimed that his son is unhappy in North London and would like to return to Italy, ESPN has reported.

Erik Lamela

Lamela only joined Tottenham from Roma in August, for a club record fee of £30m. He was one of several summer signings, including Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Vlad Chiriches and Etienne Capoue.

However, he has struggled to settle throughout his short time in England, and has played infrequently; making just three Premier League starts, while his only goal came in the Europa League against Sheriff Tiraspol.

When he spoke to Italian media, Lamela’s father, Jose, admitted that the player is finding life difficult in England and wants to return to Italy, but he refused to speculate on which clubs may be interested in handing Lamela a return to Serie A.

He said: "Erik is not happy and wants to go back to Italy. He has been linked with Lazio, but I don't know anything about this. Could he re-join Roma? I don't know. Tottenham does not want him to leave in January."

wht irks me is Andros Townsend rollicking Lamela during a eUROPA league game, also Kyle Walker and Dembele opting for different outlets as opposed to Erik early on in the season. I sat and watched over a few months wondering why oh why he wasn't playing, and then it was obvious, we have players looking out for themselves, or their England compatriots. It stinks, their behaviour stinks and it also looks like AVB let it happen, play him, play him again and again and again. DO NOT let him leave, ask the question how has this young man progressed from Argentina, moved to Italy and now is present at a top 4 English club, he has ambition, and he's a talent. I only wish he was English and he could tell his colleagues where to go himself instead of having a rollicking for roaming to their side of the pitch, i.e. seeking out the ball, which in fairness he should dictate given his skill set and understanding.
