Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra are among the players earmarked for a Manchester United exit as David Moyes prepares an attempt to breathe new life into the struggling squad, the Daily Mail has reported.

A 2-1 Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg defeat by Sunderland was United’s third loss in seven days after reverses at home in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur and the FA Cup against Swansea City.

Moyes is said to be keen to offload as many as eight players over the summer with the intention of rooting out players who he no longer wants - and who no longer want to be at Old Trafford. The experienced trio of Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra are joined by Luis Nani, Javier Hernandez, Alex Buttner, Anders Lindegaard and Anderson.

United are currently seventh in the Premier League table, 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal having claimed the title last season under Sir Alex Ferguson with an 11-point lead of their own over Manchester City. The Gunners were 16 points short in fourth place.
