West Ham owners continue to back manager Allardyce

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce continues to have the backing of the owners, despite being

thrashed 6-0 by Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final, writes

Joint owners David Gold and David Sullivan are sticking by their man even though the

Hammers have conceded eleven goals in the past two games. The drubbing at City was the second heavy defeat for Allardyce this week, having been beaten 5-0 at Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Questions have been raised of the 59-year-old but Gold and Sullivan

are backing the former Bolton manager, despite a number of fans venting their frustration at the Etihad Stadium.

Talking to BBC Sport, former West Ham defender Julian Dicks agreed with the fans views. He said: “The football isn't good, the lack of passion and pride is awful. I understand where fans are coming from.’

He added: “We all have bad games as a part of football but to watch some of them play is

embarrassing. The work-rate for the last half dozen games has been disgraceful.”

Sitting 17th in the league, West Ham come up against a rejuvenated Cardiff City at the weekend, hoping to turn their poor form around.

Speaking after the game last night Allardyce insisted he would ‘fight on’ as West Ham manager. He said: “When you are not doing well, you get stick - and I'm getting stick," he said. "That's the way it goes and that's the way this job is.”

This will not be Allardyce’s first relegation battle as manager, having guided former club Bolton Wanderers to safety in the final game of the 2002/03 Premier League campaign - at West ham’s expense.
