Hull vs Chelsea - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 10 January 2014

Jose Mourinho’s in-form Chelsea will be anticipating a difficult game when they visit Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Hull were the visitors to Stamford Bridge on opening weekend as Chelsea celebrated Mourinho’s return. They lost that match, but since then they have been mightily impressive, and have shown that they are capable of staying away from trouble. Their excellent home form is the main reason behind their success, which has led them to a place in the Premier League’s top half.

Victory here for Chelsea will make it five in a row in all competitions, having overcome a potential banana skin of an FA Cup tie at Derby County. And judging by their excellent recent defensive record and the way they dismantled Southampton in the second half on New Year’s Day, suggests that they now truly mean business and that Mourinho could lead the Blues to more silverware by the end of the campaign.

Sone Aluko, who has recently signed a contract extension at Hull, is still out injured, but the Tigers are hopeful that Matt Fryatt and Robbie Brady are able to play a part.

Chelsea duo Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard are still a few weeks away from full fitness, while Marco van Ginkel is unlikely to play again this season.
