Top 5 Players to watch in Week 21 of the Premier League

Every game is an important one in the Premier League at present, and week 21 is no different, particularly in the lower reaches of the table. These five players could make a decisive impact:

Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard

After some weeks out of action due to injury, the Liverpool captain returns to a side that appears to be in the running for a Champions League spot at the very least. The Reds arguably missed his calming presence in defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea prior to the turn of the year, but he will need to put in a strong performance against a Stoke City side who have an excellent home record.

Wilfried Bony

Swansea City’s record signing is starting to show why he scored so many for Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands last term. His wonderful double in the New Year’s Day game against Manchester City proved in vain, but he was on hand to pull off a famous win at Old Trafford in the FA Cup last time out. On Saturday, he will be looking to a repeat that feat as the Swans again travel to the home of the champions.

Alvaro Negredo

Alvaro Negredo

There were few better summer signings than Manchester City’s purchase of Negredo, who has adapted effortlessly to the demands of English football. Even without regular strike partner Sergio Aguero, the Spaniard continues to be deadly, following up his FA Cup goal against Blackburn Rovers with a wonderful hat-trick in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. The Newcastle United defence will be wary.

Marouane Chamakh

Since Tony Pulis arrived to take over as manager of Crystal Palace, Chamakh seems to have rediscovered his confidence, scoring four times, most recently against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup. On Saturday at Tottenham, he is unlikely to have that many chances, so he will have to be clinical if and when one comes his way.

John Terry

John Terry

After making relatively few appearances last season, the return of Jose Mourinho to Chelsea has helped Terry regain his regular place in the starting line-up. After a shaky spell, the Blues have returned to being tight at the back, but their opponents Hull City have suddenly found a scoring touch at home, so it might be a tougher afternoon for Terry than it may have been had he visited the KC Stadium a month ago.
