Pardew wants FA assistance if Newcastle reach Europa League

Alan Pardew could look to the Premier League and UEFA to help Newcastle in their quest for Europa League success next season, according to The Guardian.

The Toon boss confirmed that his sights are set on another top five finish, which would mean the north easterners once again qualify for the Europa League, but hopes that fixtures may be rearranged in order to preserve the players’ fitness levels and give his side the maximum chance of success in the competition.

They reached the tournament in their first season back in the Premier League, but a congested fixture list – which also had to accommodate for travel to and from the continent for European away games – meant they struggled last term.

This season, without European action to take into account, they have found themselves at the top end of the table again, and the former Southampton boss hopes that the FA could give them – or, indeed, whichever Premier League team that does end up qualifying – some help next time around.

When asked whether European qualification remains a top target for his team, he replied: “Yes. I think there might be a situation where maybe the agenda will change in terms of the fixtures. It's something I will be pushing for if we get close, the Premier League to try to help us, let us play on a Monday night or on a Wednesday and try to approach Uefa about that.

“The stats back up the suggestion that it's too early for teams to play that quickly.”

Newcastle sit seven points outside of the European places, but have a game in hand over Tottenham, who currently occupy fifth, potentially equating to a four point deficit. They host Man City at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
