Everton have completed the signing of Spartak Moscow midfielder Aiden McGeady for an undisclosed fee, according to BBC Sport.

Aiden McGeady

The former Celtic midfielder signed a four-and-a-half year contract on Saturday after successfully passing a medical at Goodison Park, and was unveiled to the Toffees faithful immediately before the club’s Premier League clash with Norwich City.

The 27-year-old brings with him experience from the continent, having spent four successful years in Russia with Moscow, and joins up with Republic of Ireland team-mates Seamus Coleman, James McCarthy and Darron Gibson on the blue half of Merseyside.

Despite McGeady’s success in Russia, a falling out with manager Valery Karpin has prevented him from featuring in the first team since November. The move secures McGeady’s return to British football, having spent six years with current Scottish Premier League champions Celtic from 2004-2010.

During that spell he won four Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Cups. He was also the recipient of the SPFA Players' Player of the Year in 2008.

Mark: Yep, apologies - stupid mistake to make. I, of course, knew it was ROI, I think I'd been touching up the article with the Celtic stuff and went on auto-pilot. Well spotted, cheers for the correction :-) James

Correction: The three team-mates of Aiden McGeady mentioned do not play for Scotland but the Republic of Ireland.
