Players to blame for poor Man Utd form, says Rafael

Manchester United right-back Rafael da Silva has insisted that the players, and not manager David Moyes, are to blame for the club’s disappointing season so far, Sky Sports is reporting.

Victory over Swansea City on Saturday prevented Man Utd’s losing streak from being extended to four matches, but it keeps them a long way off the pace in the Premier League after all of their nearest rivals won during the weekend. If Arsenal win at Aston Villa on Monday, they will go back to the top, 11 points ahead of the defending champions.

Man Utd have also lost five times already at home this season in league and cup, the highest number of Old Trafford defeats for several years, and this has led to the pressure mounting on Moyes, who took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in July.

But Rafael believes that the players should take responsibility for Man Utd’s current position. He said: "We are the ones who have to take the responsibility. I don't know why everyone is looking at the manager. It is the players who have to do the job on the pitch."

Discussing the transition from Ferguson to Moyes, Rafael added: "We knew there would be a change. The manager had just left after 27 years and it was always going to be hard. But David Moyes has a strong mentality. He is doing his own job. We have to use that in a positive way.

"We have to show our quality. People are saying United don't have a good squad. We have to prove it is not true."
