Everton boss Martinez turns attention to Osasuna striker Riera
Everton have turned their sights on signing Osasuna striker Oriol Riera as a replacement for the recently departed Nikica Jelavic, reports The Liverpool Echo.
Riera learned the trade at Barcelona, and only joined Osasuna back in the summer, but seven goals in 15 games so far this term has attracted Toffees boss Roberto Martinez, who could be preparing a move to re-strengthen his attacking depth by bringing in the 27-year-old.
Everton find themselves in the Europa League spots, occupying fifth place – but with only a point separating them from sixth placed Spurs Martinez is all too aware that a dip in form could make life difficult on the blue half of Merseyside, and so the signing of a player in his peak who is hitting an impressive goals-to-game ratio at present would surely help ease the pressure slightly.
Riera’s national record to date includes only a single appearance for Catalona – a game in which he managed to get his name on the scoresheet.
The 6ft striker is something of a nomadic figure, having played for eight different teams since making his professional debut in 2004 with Barcelona C, though he did move on to Barcelona B before moving on altogether for Cultural Leonesa in 2006.
