Tottenham winger Townsend set to return from injury

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend could make his comeback from a hamstring injury this weekend away to Swansea City, according to Sky Sports.

Andros Townsend

The England international has been out of action for a month, having pulled his hamstring in Tottenham’s Capital One Cup quarter-final reverse to West Ham United on December 18. To prove his fitness, he scored twice in a Spurs U-21 match on Tuesday.

As far as England are concerned, manager Roy Hodgson will be particularly wary about Townsend’s fitness after the news that fellow winger Theo Walcott will miss the World Cup this summer due to a ligament injury.

And the 22-year-old has received the backing of Tottenham Head Coach Tim Sherwood to produce his best form when he returns to the fold. He said: "Andros backs himself to be better than anyone else in the world, that is the sort of character he is. He needs to get himself fit and firing again and I am sure you will see the best of it."

"I have known him since he was a kid and he is a good lad. He is a top trainer and he wants to be playing in every minute of every game, but he will get his opportunities and I am sure he will be productive between now and the end of the season for us."
