Man City eyeing Porto defender Mangala
Wednesday 15 January 2014
According to reports in France, Manchester City are looking to reignite their interest in FC Porto defender Eliquim Mangala, who is rated at £42m, writes Talksport.
Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini has previously played down talk of him trying to add to his squad during the January transfer window, but he is thought to be considering his options as he looks to improve his side’s defensive record.
Mangala is one of the world’s most highly-rated defenders, but while Man City retain interest in the 22-year-old, big-spending French duo Monaco and Paris St. Germain are both thought to be monitoring his situation, or even preparing bids of their own.
Porto are very unwilling to allow Mangala leave them, and have so far resisted all attempts from other clubs to sign the player, who has a £42m release clause in his contract, which runs until the summer of 2016.
The Frenchman has been at Porto since 2011, and has been a key figure in two Portuguese Superliga title winning campaigns, the second of which coming without losing a game. Overall, he has made 70 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.
