West Ham striker Andy Carroll is excited to make a return to action after a frustrating period on the treatment table, according to Sky Sports.

The England international made a £17.5m move to the Hammers last summer but ongoing foot problems have lead to a lengthy time off the pitch.

“It has been a massive nightmare to be honest. I went off to Belgium and then to Holland, to fix it [the injury] but now I am feeling really good and all I want to do is play football,” said Carroll.

“I just want to forget about the past months with the injury and just look forward to playing more football for West Ham. I can't stand being on the sidelines. It drives me crazy.”

The 25-year-old made his comeback from injury in the 2-0 victory over Cardiff on Saturday, coming off the bench in the final 18 minutes to grab an assist for the second goal.

The former Liverpool man is now hoping to aid his team in their bid to avoid the relegation zone, starting with a win over his hometown club Newcastle on Saturday.

“Hopefully I get a few more minutes against Newcastle and we get a win this Saturday too. Yes of course it is nostalgic for me, it is my home town but I am just looking forward to it really, to play again,” added Carroll. “I am just over the moon about a game coming up as I have been out for too long, so it is fantastic to be back.”

West Ham’s win over Cardiff lifted them out of the relegation zone and Carroll will be hoping to continue their winning ways as they seek to alleviate the pressure facing boss Sam Allardyce.
