Man City boss Pellegrini hails Aguero return
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has heaped praise on Sergio Aguero, after the Argentine scored on his return to action, BBC Sport has reported.
Aguero spent a month on the sidelines, coming back slightly earlier than expected after a calf injury, which he sustained during the 6-3 win over Arsenal on December 14. Man City have coped well in his absence, continuing their unbeaten run and moving to within one point of the Gunners, who top the Premier League.
A brace from Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko’s powerful near post finish had put Man City 3-0 against Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday in their FA Cup third round replay. Pellegrini decided to bring on Aguero, and he made an immediate impact, scoring with a shot on the turn barely a minute after entering the fray. Dzeko added his second and Man City’s fifth late on.
And after the game, Pellegrini hailed Aguero’s performance upon his comeback. He said: "It's important that Sergio came back and scored, which he did with his first touch. We have so many games at this stage. Also to play 25 minutes will be important for him because he is fit after injury but he must be working on his fitness again."
