Arsenal vs Fulham - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 17 January 2014

Premier League leaders Arsenal will be hoping to maintain their slender advantage at the top with a victory over struggling Fulham.

It was only during the final quarter of an hour of the game at Aston Villa on Monday where Arsenal came under some pressure. A two-goal salvo in as many minutes accounted for their mid-table hosts, and the result suggested that this Gunners team are very capable of handling the pressure that comes with challenging for the title, after they saw each of the six teams below them take maximum points before they were in action.

Fulham responded to being stung by Sunderland with a slick showing and a 3-0 FA Cup triumph over Norwich City, but it is Premier League points that they need, and a trip to the Emirates Stadium is something they could do without. As it stands, the Cottagers are precariously placed, just a point clear of the relegation zone and with the division’s worst defensive record.

Arsenal will be without Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby and Yaya Sanogo for their 200th Premier League London derby, while Thomas Vermaelen is doubtful. Aaron Ramsey could return from a thigh injury.

The visitors are unable to call upon left-back Matthew Briggs, but otherwise have a fully fit squad to choose from.
